NEF is helping thousands of small farmers in arid eastern Morocco use agricultural water more efficiently, more productively, and more profitably.
Farmers struggling to cope with climate change are able to more successfully manage their resources and increase their income as a direct result of NEF training, technical assistance, and “micro-projects” that introduce more water-efficient crops, irrigation, and farming practices.
In addition to short-term benefits, these activities enable community members to manage their water resources holistically for long-term sustainability. NEF also promotes the sustainable growth of agriculture by emphasizing commercially viable crops and facilitating market linkages.
NEF's 2.5 year project in agricultural water management will help at least 2,500 smallholders in 25 communities in Morocco's Oriental Region, with a geographic focus on the Provinces of Taourirt, Berkane, and Figuig. NEF will place special emphasis on reaching women, youth, and other vulnerable groups to increase income for 1,250 of the most impoverished participants.
