NEF builds linkages between local governments and grassroots community organizations to improve the ability of agriculture and natural resource managers to cope with the impacts of climate change. NEF provides training in climate change vulnerability assessments and adaptation strategies, and supports agriculture and livestock pilot projects to help local governments integrate climate change into development planning.

Since 2005, NEF has assisted the inhabitants of dozens of villages cope with changes in rainfall, temperature, and river flow in Mali’s inland delta—activities that have successfully increased agricultural output, diversified food sources, and improved nutrition.

NEF is coordinating a national-level working group on climate adaptation and assisting Mali’s national government to participate effectively in global climate negotiations.
