PARTICIPATION
In this village near the fabled Dead Sea in the Jordan River Valley, NEF staff created a vibrant dialogue in which all members of the community could participate.
Using carefully-developed and tested techniques for involving people of varied status, age and educational levels, NEF participatory appraisals encourage a community to do serious analysis of its problems. NEF staff have seen time and again that people at the grassroots have a clear insight into what will improve things. What they lack is not ideas or motivation but the technical expertise and resources to make a better future.
In this village, like many others, a primary need was the opportunity to enhance family income. NEF programs in Jordan, such as creating micro-lending associations and showing farmers how to do fish farming in their irrigation ponds, have helped people improve their lives. |
