In a world where attempted solutions to international problems too often involve power, violence and domination, The Near East Foundation reflects a different approach. NEF employs the understanding expressed at its beginning that lasting global stability and peace arise from working hand-in-hand with those at the grass roots. NEF is about equality, partnership and ensuring that those with whom we work gain power over their situations. Thus NEF builds capabilities, communities, and friendships.

Cleveland H. Dodge led a group of New York leaders in forming Near East Relief (NER), a response to Ambassador to Constantinople Henry Morgenthau's urgent plea for assistance to save victims of the Armenian genocide and deportations of 1915. In 1930 NER was renamed Near East Foundation. |

Since its beginning, NEF has made a difference which lasts. Its work is made possible by gifts small and large from people who trust the work and integrity of NEF.
