   Quality Standards--Motto of NEF-Morocco's Summer Camp 2007

All of the rural campers and half of those from the city had never seen the sea before splashing and playing around was part of their daily morning routine from July 19 to August 2.

There also were art classes in painting, theater, music and song, public speaking, even cooking.

Each child received a medical examination as well as a new sports outfit provided by the U.S. Ambassador to Morocco, Thomas T. Riley, and the project's main funder, the U.S. Department of State's Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI).

Summer camp, now in its second year, joins the growing list of NEF innovations bringing a fresh incentive to primary school education, particularly geared to attracting the participation of girls and women.

   NEF-Morocco Celebrates National Day of Children's Rights

Now Morocco's National Day of Children's Rights joins the growing list of NEF innovations bringing a fresh incentive to primary school education.

The day's theater, art, and singing activities were designed with a very serious purpose--to make schools a community focal point.

Greater community involvement in schools comes from NEF's multifaceted strategy, including adult literacy classes, energy-efficient cookstoves very helpful to women, and income generating projects.

   NEF-Morocco Attends To Participation And Creativity Of All

This spring NEF and the Ouarzazate branch of the Education and Development Society partnered on a nine-day workshop for the enrichment of Moroccan teens 14-to-16 years old.

Main topics were human rights, citizenship, culture as well as just plain fun--formally labeled "entertainment and recreation."

Trucks filled with large crates of clothing, shoes, toys and books made their way up the rugged mountain roads of the High Atlas Mountains.

The trucks contents were distributed to the neediest women and children in these remote Berber villages, by enthusiastic volunteers of the Spanish organization "Azul en Accion."

   Yet Another Ambassadorial Visit To See NEF's Moroccan Education Reform in Action

Co-coordinator of the project, Hafida Agouzi, provided Ambassador Thibault with a succinct overview of NEF's pioneering innovations, also presented in written form.

The French ambassador was accompanied by the Moroccan director of regional education for Sous Massa Draa, as well as the government delegate and deputy for the area.
